A Polar Expedition, Reimagined in Cashmere

Designing for the Ends of the Earth

Designing for a polar expedition required a different mindset - one rooted in stillness and scale.

Before a single line was drawn, I immersed myself in research: polar light phenomena, indigenous birds, whales, and the delicate ecosystem that defines this remote region.

Every PeppaRose design begins by hand, drawn stroke by stroke in my Colorado studio.

No element or motif is ever is purchased or created by AI.

Each design in this collection was developed specifically for Seabourn Cruise Line, with the intention of reflecting not just what guests see on their journey, but how it feels to be there.

DESIGN #1

THE AURORA AUSTRALIS

The southern lights are among nature’s most poetic phenomena. This design was originally conceived in celebration of the Aurora Australis, with hand-drawn shades of midnight blue and emerald green capturing the luminous movement of the Southern Hemisphere sky.

Because this celestial display also appears in the Northern Hemisphere as the Aurora Borealis, the same artwork naturally extends to celebrate Seabourn’s global polar expeditions - uniting north and south through a shared language of light, color and stars.

DESIGN#2

EMPEROR PENGUINS & THE COMPASS

Emperor penguins are among the most extraordinary inhabitants of Antarctica - not only for their size and beauty, but for the remarkable devotion they show to their young.

In this design, I hand-drew an emperor penguin family - two adults and a single chick - to reflect one of the most astonishing survival stories in the natural world. Emperor penguins are the only penguin species that breed during the Antarctic winter, enduring the coldest temperatures on Earth and winds that can exceed 100 miles per hour.

After the female lays her egg, she transfers it to the male, who balances it carefully on his feet beneath a warm fold of skin. For more than two months, the male fasts entirely, sheltering the egg through darkness, ice, and extreme cold while the female journeys to the sea to feed. When the chick finally hatches, it is welcomed into a tightly bonded family unit - a symbol of resilience, patience, and quiet strength.

By depicting the penguins as a family rather than individuals, the artwork honors not just their iconic presence in Antarctica, but the tenderness that exists even in the harshest environments.

This hand-drawn penguin motif anchors the corners of the scarf, while a creative navigation compass is centered at the heart of the design.

DESIGN #4

THE HUMPBACK WHALE

Graceful and powerful, humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae) are among the most spectacular encounters of a polar voyage.

Our artwork captures a humpback whale’s fluke arched above icy water at the moment of a deep dive, set against the vast stillness of Antarctica’s glacial landscape.

Global travelers, known for their epic migrations between polar feeding grounds and warmer tropical waters, humpback whales embody both endurance and grace as they journey across the world’s oceans.

With a deep respect for our magical world, this polar expedition collection is produced on 100% cashmere, using responsible, small-batch printing with master artisans in Nepal.
